We’re either the stupidest people alive, the bravest people alive, or some combination of the two. We’re currently sitting on a plane, a 777 at one am, heading for Tai Pai, then off to Thailand. This isn’t a vacation; we are hoping to start new lives somewhere.
The idea has been gestating in both of us since we met and agreed to get married (yes, that’s how our proposal was, we both just kind of agreed to it); just ditch everything and take off. On a Monday, we finally decided to do it. It’s now Sunday, technically Monday, so a week later, we did it/ are doing it. We’re saying goodbye to everything and everyone. The only things we’re bringing with us is whatever we can fit into 60 gallon backpacks, and the clothes on our backs.
Our jobs are gone, our home is gone. All of our possessions are gone. Our friends and family are gone. Of course, there’s ways to stay in touch, but a drop-in visit is out of the question. We are literally moving across the world with a twenty one hour flight.
It was hard saying goodbye to my Mom and Dad. I feel a little guilty saying it was hardest saying goodbye to my dog though. I dropped him off on Monday and have missed him ever since.
The plane is heading for the runway now. It’s time for our really brave, or really incredibly stupid, adventure.
Did I mention we don’t speak a word of any of the languages in Southeast Asia?
Sooooooo…. here we go!
